Louisiana is Business-Friendly!

Among the major pro-business incentives available through the Department of Economic Development are: the Industrial Tax Exemption, Enterprise Zone Program, and Restoration Tax Abatement. Other incentives administered by the Office of Commerce and Industry include: Quality Jobs, Biomedical Research Park, University Research Parks, and Film and Video. Incentives administered by the Department of Revenue and Taxation include: Corporate Jobs Tax Credit, Inventory Tax Credit, Freeport Laws, Training Assistance and others.

Other incentives of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development are applicable to small businesses: Small Business Equity Program, Economically Disadvantaged businesses, Small Business Innovative Research Matching Grant Program, and the Venture Capital Co-Investment Program.

Louisiana Tax Rankings

Louisiana ranks 10th in imposing the lowest total tax burden (federal, state, and local taxes included) (Tax Foundation, February 2003).

Louisiana ranks No. 4 in Bloomberg’s annual rating of the "wealth-friendly" states. The rankings are compiled by comparing taxes across the nation, including levies on salaries, real estate and personal property (Bloomberg Wealth Manager Magazine, June 2003).

Louisiana remains in the top 10 in the prestigious Bloomberg annual tax survey, which cites assessment differences from state to state and then ranks them for their tax friendliness.                     (Bloomberg Personal Finance, May 2002).
